Colon Cleanse With Psyllium

There are various supplements you can use to assist in maintaining good colon health, and psyllium is one of those products. Psyllium and colon cleansing go hand-in-hand, making psyllium a key component of any colon cleanse program or diet you may be participating in. It is also a great supplement to take on a regular/daily basis for maintenance purposes.

Psyllium comes from the Plantago plant and can be used for a variety of purposes. It can be used to relieve constipation because it promotes normal bowel movements. This is something you will become aware of very quickly after starting on a daily regiment of psyllium.

This seems somewhat counterintuitive, but it can be used to relieve diarrhea. Again, this seems counterintuitive based on the fact that it promotes regularity, but its properties are such that it absorbs water and thickens which helps to facilitate diarrhea relief.

It can also be used to help prevent hemorrhoids, due to reducing constipation (hemorrhoids are usually the result of long periods of sitting on the toilet...so regular and normal bowel movements will help you go to the bathroom with ease if you are a constipation sufferer).

More recent studies have linked psyllium with the ability to aid diabetics and lowering the risk of heart disease....

But I want to highlight psyllium here as a great way to help cleanse the colon.

So, how does it help clean up the colon? Once psyllium enters your digestive tract it becomes spongy and somewhat like gelatin, as it begins to thicken up. As has been mentioned, psyllium absorbs water, and this causes the psyllium to expand from anywhere to 35 - 50 times its normal size. Now you have a thick gelatinous mass that begins to pick up toxins that are caught in the folds, cracks, and crevices of your intestines and colon. Then it pushes all of this through your colon and out of your body when you go to the bathroom.

So, basically, the psyllium expands to such a degree that it takes the shape of the inside of your colon. So, as it moves along your intestinal tract, it pushes out all the stuff in front of it and picks up all the bits and pieces (think toxins and bacteria) that are tucked in the crevices of the lining of your intestines until all of this "stuff" is eliminated through a bowel movement. That, in a nutshell, is how psyllium works to help you cleanse your colon.

Always take psyllium with a tall glass of water or juice - at least 8 ounces...more is even better. Remember, it is the fluid that will allow the psyllium to expand and do the job you want it to do in regards to colon cleansing. So, it is also a good idea to drink plenty of water throughout the day as well.

You can take psyllium in a powder form or in a capsule. I prefer taking it in a capsule for several reasons. You have to mix the powder with the liquid and it can begin to thicken in your glass if you do not drink it quickly enough. Capsules are easier to take in general, as you do not have to worry about measurements or mix it in your drink. Plus, while psyllium does not have much taste to it, it does have a gritty texture which makes it more difficult for some people to want to take. All-in-all, capsules are the quick, easy, and painless way to go when taking a psyllium supplement.

I have used this psyllium many times and have had great results, and I have not been able to find a better price - for capsules or powder.

Remember, psyllium is not the end all be all when it comes to colon cleanse health. There is still all that impacted "junk" on your colon walls that needs to be eliminated through the use of an all-encompassing colon cleanse program, but it is a recommended part of any colon cleansing diet and its good for daily maintenance and all the reasons outlined above.

Good Health to You,

Matt
